The Rightcar website aims to help vehicle buyers choose safer, cleaner and more economical cars. It contains data on safety, fuel economy and vehicle emissions to help you make that choice.
You can find out how a car ranks on:
harm to other road users
carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions
All of this information has been put together from a wide range of sources.
Rightcar is administered by the NZ Transport Agency and is linked to the motor vehicle register. This is so registration plate information can be linked with vehicle data.
What Rightcar covers
Please note that Rightcar only lists cars, 4WDs, SUVs, vans and utility vehicles that have been sold in New Zealand since 2005. In 2005 importers were required to supply information on fuel economy. If your car is older than 2005, you won't find it on Rightcar. However, you may find ex-Japanese domestic vehicles built since 2000 on the site, if they were imported after 2005.
